Seeing God

May 2, 2018

There is something within us that asks the difficult questions such as “Is there other life in our universe?” “How did everything come to be?” “Is there a God?” Even people of faith wrestle with the notion of hearing God’s voice or even seeing God. Why would God be so elusive? These are difficult questions that I have a hard time answering. Yet, they are filled with great wonder and worthy of seeking their answer from time to time.

Many of us long to hear God’s voice, and to understand God’s guidance as we journey through life. I’ve learned through my own struggles and doubts that we can see and hear God in many ways. When we realize that God is love and that we are created in the image of God we can easily and beautifully see God in our lives. As you live each day, remember that you are created in God’s image; and remember that God is love and the spirit of God is within you producing within you all the characteristics that you could ever need to make your life and the lives of those around you a thing of pure joy.

When you have experienced moments of peace, love and joy remember that that is God’s gift to you. When you show gentleness, kindness and patience towards others, it’s God living through you so that others may see God’s shining light. Never forget how much God loves and values you and each person on this entire planet.

My favorite way to see God is through acts of compassion. The word compassion literally means “to suffer with.” When you sit with your son or daughter and listen to their woes, you are demonstrating compassion. When you shed tears and lose sleep over a friend’s hardships, you are experiencing compassion. When you help a friend in need at 1:00 in the morning, that’s compassion.  Compassion is my favorite form of love. It never gives up. It never judges. It seeks restoration and is always there for the other person. Those who benefit from your acts of compassion, whatever they may be, see God because God is love and is living through you.

Live a life of love and you will see God.
